Understanding Light Levels
- Bright, Direct Light: Several hours of direct, unfiltered sun. This is often too intense for most houseplants, but ideal for succulents and cacti.
- Bright, Indirect Light: A bright spot where the sun's rays don't directly hit the plant. This is the sweet spot for the majority of houseplants.
- Medium Light: A spot that receives some ambient light, but is further away from a window.
- Low Light: A shady corner or a room with no windows. Only a few plants can tolerate this, like the Snake Plant and ZZ Plant.
Window Direction Matters
- South-facing windows provide the most intense, bright light.
- West-facing windows get strong, direct sun in the afternoon.
- East-facing windows get gentler, direct morning sun.
- North-facing windows provide the least amount of light.
