Common Pests
- Spider Mites: Tiny, spider-like pests that create fine webbing.
- Mealybugs: Small, white, cottony pests that cluster in nooks and crannies.
- Scale: Brown, immobile bumps on stems and leaves.
- Fungus Gnats: Small flies that buzz around the soil. The larvae live in the soil and can damage roots.
Treatment
First, isolate the infected plant to prevent pests from spreading. For most pests, a thorough wipe-down of the leaves and stems with a cotton swab dipped in rubbing alcohol can be effective. For a larger infestation, spray the entire plant with a solution of neem oil or insecticidal soap, making sure to get the undersides of the leaves. Repeat the treatment every 5-7 days until the pests are gone.
